Endless Summer

THE Suckiest Christmas Ever

December26

While my family spent time together in San Diego, exchanged presents and ate good food, I got to spend Christmas alone. I spent 12 hours cleaning my house, I ate two Fig Newtons and some cheese and crackers for my Christmas dinner and stared at the ceiling until I finally fell asleep.

So, how exactly did this happen? Where is my loving boyfriend? Oh, he decided on Christmas morning that he should drive to San Juan because his new surfboard landed today…and that I should stay home and clean the house because we have guests arriving today. It just so happens that Stefans best friend is flying into San Juan on Christmas (late at night) too, so after consulting with his buddies when he was out surfing, he decided that it would be selfish if he drove to San Juan to pick up his surfboard and didn’t wait the extra 10 hours to pick up his buddy.

Yes folks, that’s right, “selfish”. That is the exact word Stefan used.

So, off Stefan goes at 1pm, to make the 2 hour drive to San Juan in order to pick up his new surfboard and then wait in San Juan until Connor and Diannes flight arrives at 12am. Then, Stefan was supposed to transport Connor, Dianna and his precious new surfboard back home by 3am.

Notice that I said “supposed to”.

That’s because I awoke at 7:30am this morning, alone. No Stefan, no Connor, no Dianne and most importantly, no surfboard (yes, I’m being sarcastic). Now, what would you think if your friends were supposed to be here late last night and they are currently 5 hours late? Yep. They must be dead on the side of the road. Right? Now, normally you would just call said friends and see where the fuck they are, but shortly after Stefan drove off on his valiant mission, my cell phone ran out of batteries. And my phone charger is in the truck that he drove off to San Juan in. (That also left me alone on Christmas, with no food in the house and no phone to call my family to wish them a merry Christmas…rad.) So, I wake up frantic because my boyfriend MUST be dead because there really can’t be any other reason why he would be 5 hours late after ditching me on Christmas, I contrive a device to suck the last seconds of juice out of my cell phone and was able to retrieve the following voicemail from Stefan,

“Hey babe, it’s 1am and Connor and Diannes flight has arrived safely. Unfortunately my board is stuck in customs, so we’re going to spend the night in San Juan and hopefully we’ll be back in Rincon, surfing by noon…”

OH. So Stefan spent Christmas at an expensive hotel in the city, had an excellent Christmas dinner at some fancy restaurant, gambled at one of the casinos in San Juan and hung out with his best friend and his wife. Cool. I’m glad to hear that they are going to try and make it home soon so they can go surfing…

Absolut Disco

December11

Stefan and I were shopping at Sams Club in Puerto Rico and I was mesmerized by this bottle of Absolute Vodka.

It’s their special gift packaging for the holidays: Absolute Disco. It’s designed so you can hang it on your Christmas tree when you finish it…haha. I don’t even like vodka all that much (nor do I have a Christmas tree this year), but I stil bought it. Gotta love great marketing! For $14, it looks cool on the bar. ;)

The San Diego Drill

December1

I’m currently in San Diego for the next 6 days, while I conduct a customer service crash training course to get the SD office fully self-sufficient. Being back in San Diego is kind of cool, actually. It’s cold (big difference from Puerto Rico) and rainy, which makes me realize that it’s actually winter. Any how, whenever I’m back in San Diego, I have a routine:

1. Drive my car really, really fast. I actually like driving and I don’t really have a car in Puerto Rico. Even when I do drive in Puerto Rico, it’s not fun because there are SO many shitty drivers in Puerto Rico. The 2-lane roads, are really only wide enough for one car, so you are constantly slamming on the brakes and swerving off the road to avoid head on collisions. So hauling ass on the 7-lane wide Interstate 5 in San Diego is fun when I’m in town. :)

2. Eat at Brueggers Bagels. Brueggers Bagels has the best bagels and flavored cream cheese and they make my favorite breakfast and lunch. An onion bagel with light veggie cream cheese and tomatos for breakfast and an Herby Turkey sandwich for lunch. Yum!!

3. Eat sushi. I’m a sushi freak. When Stefan and I lived in California, we would eat sushi 3 times a week (if not more). It really doesn’t make sense, but Puerto Rico does not have good sushi. The town we live in doesn’t even have a sushi restaurant. There is SO much good fish that could be caught and served in Puerto Rico, but Puerto Ricans prefer everything fried. Yuck. So, when I’m in Cali, I definately have to get my sushi fix.

4. Shop. Clothes shopping is another must, while I’m in San Diego. Finding stuff I like in Puerto Rico is few and far between, when it comes to clothes.

Travis Barker is an Okay Drummer

November22

Here is a video of Travis Barkers remix of Soulja Boy’s song “Crank That”:

Even though I never liked Blink 182, you just can’t deny that Travis Barker is a talented drummer…;)

The Kuta Rules

November18

For those of you who don’t know, Kuta is my dog, BFF and bodyguard. Kuta is a 9 year old Australian Shepard and I welcomed him into this world, the very day he was born. My mom used to be an Australian Shepard breeder and Kuta’s litter was the last litter that came out of On Q Australian Shepards (my mom had already retired from dog breeding, but when I was 20 years old and ready for my 1st dog, she made it happen :) . ) As I mentioned before, I was there when Kuta was born. From the moment he was born, I held him. I was there every day. Before he could see or hear (puppies can’t see or hear for the 1st two weeks of life), he knew my smell. At two days old, I held him while his tail and duclaws (thumbs) were cut off (brutal, I know, but 99% of Australian Shepards have their tails docked). I carried Kuta around like a little lapdog until I could no longer lift him (he grew into a 70lb super Aussie) and have loved every second that he has been in my life. In return, I have the most loyal bodyguard a girl could ask for.

For most people, Kuta is a big pain in the ass. Not because he’s an annoying, dumb, slobbering, yappy, hairy dog, but because his life revolves around protecting me. And he is VERY, very smart. People don’t get it, but there are Kuta Rules in my house.

The Kuta Rules
1. If Summer is sleeping, you can not make a movement towards the bedroom.
2. If Summer is in the shower, you can not even walk near the bathroom.
3. Do not walk into Summers office.
4. Do not say “Summer”, no matter how sweetly you say it.
5. Do not knock on the door.
6. No prolonged hugging of Summer is allowed.

I don’t even know how Kuta made up these rules, because I sure as hell never taught him to protect me. As a matter of fact, I had him neutered because I had roomates that were pissed that they couldn’t walk by the bathroom, when I was in the shower. Nothing changed. Walk by my bedroom/bathroom and you risk getting bit in the ass. Sorry.

Even if you are a “dog person” and/or even if Kuta loves you, the rules above apply. Although I never set out to have a bodyguard on duty 24/7, you know what? It suits me just fine. If you don’t like it, you don’t have to come over to Kuta’s house ;) .

My Mom Has Good Karma

November5

Now, one thing that most people know about me is that I’m a realist. I hate drama. I love facts. I don’t like to speculate. After hearing the facts and looking at the fire map, I was 100% sure that my moms house was destroyed by the Witch Creek fire that mowed through Ramona. Where she lives is close to where it started and is dead center of so much destruction. Here are the latest maps of homes that where destroyed. The bubble is pointing to the street that my Mom and Gary live on and all the red houses shown are homes that were completely destroyed by the Witch Creek fire:

I honestly can’t believe that her house made it through and I am SO SO SO happy that it did. It was only one of a couple houses that are left standing in her community. The police gave my Mom and Gary 3 minutes to evacuate in the middle of the night. The police said that if they did not get out now, they would arrest them. They had to leave behind everything, including the horses and dogs. I still can’t believe what an amazing miracle it is that everything turned out okay for them.

No Cell Phone

October30

Unfortunately I havn’t had a cell phone since Friday, so if you’re trying to get in touch with me…well…I havn’t checked my email either, so call Stefan if you need me :) .

As I was rushing around trying to get ready to leave San Diego, my cell phone charger went missing and my cell phone was almost dead. So, since having my cell is pretty important, I rushed over to WalMart and bought an aftermarket charger for my LC CU500. Unfortunately, the stupid charger completely fried my phone! Howe lame is that? So not only can no one call me, but I can’t call anyone else because everyones phone numbers are in my fried phone that won’t turn on. Pretty lame, especially since there are no AT&T stores in Puerto Rico, so I just ordered a phone online, which should be here in the next 2 – 3 days.

I bought a gold Motorola Razr on eBay…haha. Bling, bling.

How Much is Enough?

October26

Since quitting my job, I’ve been on an emotional rollercoaster. I’m elated for a while and then racked with “what ifs”. I know everything is going to be fine, but I’m definately a workaholic and I’m addicted to making money. That’s the beauty of what I do, the harder I work the more money I make. So it’s hard to not want to make money/work. I just hope that I’ve tied everything up well enough that I can walk away for a month and reassess what’s up with my crazy life. I just can’t do this any more. I’ve been working 12 – 18 hour days for years now and I just can’t do it anymore. I need to find a balance, but that is easier said then done. Back in the day, I was perfectly happy making $40K a year, working 40 hours a week and surfing 3 times a week. But would that make me happy now that I know what else is out there? I’ve saved up some cash so I will have some time to think.

I can’t wait to go home. :)

I Quit

October23

I quit my job today.

That might seem kind of funny since I own a business, but nonetheless, I quit. I was pushed just a little too far by someone that I’d given a golden ticket too, and I’m done. Don’t want to do the job? Then you don’t have a job. Makes sense to me.

I’m tying up all the loose ends and then flying home to Puerto Rico on Friday. I think I’m going to be an unemployed surfer for a few weeks and then regroup with a new game plan.
