Syd’s Super Cute Homemade Unicorn Costume

January11

Last year, I made my daughter a homemade Baby Gaga costume and really had no idea what I was going to make her for Halloween 2011. At the last minute, I had an epiphany and decided that I was going to make a unicorn costume for my 2 year old! I had no idea how easy or hard it would be, but it ended up being fairly easy and came out SUPER cute. Here is the final product:

Adorable Toddler Unicorn Costume

I had a vague idea on how I wanted the costume to look, but after visiting the fabric store, they didn’t have any of the fabrics I needed for my original vision. So, I headed over to the sale fabric pile and started digging. I ended up with a low-pile white faux fur, a longer white faux fur, purple faux fur and this really neat looking purplish velvet with metallic sparkle. I then picked up some gold spandex for the horn and hooves.

I started the costume by making the hood, since I figured that would be the most important part of a unicorn costume. I made the hood out of the low-pile white faux fur, lined it with the purple sparkly velvet and made the ears first.

Unicorn costume with ears:

After successfully making and attaching the unicorn ears to the hood, I made the mane and horn. For the horn, I sewed the gold spandex onto a piece of felt and made a cone. This gave it enough body to stand up on it’s own without being to hard or heavy. For the mane I cut strips of the long white faux fur and the purple fur.

I sewed the strips of mane in alternating colors into the seam of the hood. Then I hand sewed a piece of gold trim in a swirl pattern down the horn and hand sewed the horn to the hood. Finally, I sewed the lining in and the hood was finished!

I then procrastinated until the day of Halloween to make the rest of the costume, so I don’t have pictures of the individual pieces (oops!). But, I made a simple sheath dress out of the low-pile white faux fur, with a zipper front. I attached the hood to the dress and made a tail out of the long white faux fur that I sewed to the back of the dress. I then made arm and leg warmers out of the gold spandex and attached fur to the front, so that the gold spandex fit over her shoes and hands to look like golden hooves.

The Baby Gaga Costume

July5

Completed Baby Gaga Costume!Last year, I made my 1-year old daughter a homemade Baby Gaga costume for Halloween and it was a HUGE hit. I finally got around to posting the pictures and even made a funny Baby Gaga video (see below).

The costume was really fun to make and it was easier then it looks. I would say you would need intermediate sewing skills to make a DIY Baby Gaga costume, just because sewing spandex can be a little tricky. Or, you could find a baby leotard and go from there. The trick is the hood and attaching the wig to the hood, since most babies will wear hoods, but most will not wear a wig. Sydney actually really enjoyed wearing her Baby Gaga costume and kept the hood/wig on for the entire party. I was shocked!

Here is Sydney busting out her best Baby Gaga dance moves and more pictures of how the Baby Gaga costume was made:

If you are looking for a funny/hilarious costume for your baby or toddler, I highly recommend the Baby Gaga costume. It was really fun! I’ve been thinking long and hard about what I am going to make Sydney for Halloween 2012, so I’m hoping I can top the Baby Gaga costume!

Supermodel Karolina Kurkova is Fat

January18

Supermodel Karolina Kurkova got blasted in the press for strutting down the catwalk during Sao Paulo Fashion Week, carrying along what one newspaper called “cellulite and back fat”.

fat supermodel karolina kurkova

Calling Karolina fat, of course brought out all the “average” womens opinions to her defense. But seriously? Karolina is packing too many pounds in the picture above. She gets paid millions of dollars a year to walk down a catwalk, showing off designers clothing. Would it kill her to watch what she was eating and exercise a couple of times a week? Keeping her body up to supermodel status is in fact her job (that she makes $5million a year doing). I would be pretty pissed if I paid her $250,000 to walk my runway, only to find that everyone is talking about her fat ass, rather then my sexy swimsuits that she was wearing.

Karolina obviously took what the media had to say to heart, because she promptly lost the extra weight. Here she is 6 months after the runway show mentioned above:

Innovations in Lingerie * FAIL!

January8

While I’m all about progress and innovations, there are some things that you just can’t improve. Since I’m involved in the lingerie/fashion industry I tend to see some pretty retarded “innovations” at the tradeshows. It actually makes me feel bad looking at these people that have dumped their life savings into something that is an obvious failure, but hey at least they tried?

Here are a few lingerie items that I find to be totally ridiculous:

c-string lingerie pantiesThe C-String: This is apparently supposed to be some sort of improvement on the popular g-string panty style. according to their website:

“The CString is a completely new and exciting innovation in lingerie. Say goodbye to panty line and uncomfortable straps. Say hello to a sexy new freedom.”

Because, you know, straps on your underwear are way more uncomfortable then a headband-like object stuck up your buttcrack? I’m actually quite surprised that CString is still in business, but I did notice that they added real underwear (g-string and booty shorts) to their collection instead of just producing the C-String.

vagina sealerPastease Strapless Bikini: The Pastease are actually pretty cool, but when Pastease expanded their pasties collection to include the “strapless bikini”, they kinda jumped the shark. The bikini bottom is essentially a waterproof triangle sticker that measure 1.5″ x 2.5″. We have deemed the Pastease Strapless Bikini, “The Vag Sealer”, at the office. According to the Pastease website:

“Our most daring funwear strapless bikini features the same waterproof, skin-safe adhesive as all Pastease.”

Funwear? I wonder how much fun removing the strapless bikini is?

backless thong underwearThe Backless Thong: Oh boy, where to begin. According to BacklessLingerie.com:

“Unlike a G-String or thong, our Lingerie minimize VPL (visible panty lines) but also have a full width gusset, giving you comfort and peace of mind. Unlike other forms of lingerie, Backless Lingerie doesn’t ride, wedge or shift. Their soft straps sit snugly below your bottom, keeping them firmly in place.”

For the girl so obsessed with panty lines that a thong is not good enough? But she would wear this crazy contraption rather then go commando? Kind of a small market there…

I can’t imagine the backless thong staying in place without making the leg straps uncomfortably tight. And, there has to be some shifting when you sit down that’s going to look a lot stranger trying to fix then picking a wedgie.

kim kardashian butt braThe Butt Bra: Sadly, this is the least stupid lingerie innovation on my list, but come on…A butt bra? Shapewear has been around for a long time and The Butt Bra would fall into the shapewear category along with girdles and slimmers, but I think this beauty has been brought on by the “Kim Kardashian Era”, where there is no such thing as too much booty. Can you imagine getting caught wearing something as silly as this? I’ll just stick with doing squats thank you very much.

Halloween Costumes

October4

What are you going to be for Halloween? I’ve been buried up to my neck in Halloween costumes for 2 months now and I finally tried one on today. And it’s perfect! I’m going to be a victorian vixen vampire:

sexy vampire costume

I also picked out the proper victorian vampire costumes accessories as well: Top hat with bow, victorian choker necklace and jeweled shoes.

And the best part of my vampire costumes? I also ordered sterling silver vampire fangs. Yep, I’m going to be a vampire with a grill. Haha.

I’ve also decided that I need two Halloween costumes this year, since we’ll be partying in San Juan on Wednesday (which is actually Halloween) and then we’ll be partying in Rincon on the weekend. SO, I think I’m also going to be an airline pilot as well (which is fitting since I’ve flown at least 10 times this year). Then Stefan and I can match. Awwwwwwwwwww :) .

Welcome to the Dark Side

August16

Renee at Bakerloo was able to squeeze me in today and I got my hair cut and colored.

It’s hard to tell from the pictures but it’s a dark chocolate brown with a little bit of blond in the front and purple streaks underneath. I’ve never had dark hair before and I like it! :)

Witness Protection Program Summer

August8

On a whim, I dyed my hair dark brown today. I’ve been a blonde for 28 years, so I figured, why not? I like to call this my “Summer enters a witness protection program” look:

I think I need more of a tan to pull it off, but I think it’s a fun change. You can’t see it in the picture, but the parts of my hair that were really light blonde ended up blue….hmmm…interesting…haha :)

Sunglasses Fetish?

April29

Stefan and I were shopping for sheets for our new temperpedic bed today, and we decided to see if we needed anything else. So, of course I was able to find a new pair of sunglasses that I just had to have. Stefan pointed out that I have been buying SO many pairs of sunglasses lately and did I really need another pair?!

( Photographic evidence of my sunglass fetish: )

Of course I need them ;) . So I bought the black pair shown at the upper right of the picture above. They’re hot. Had to have ‘em…;)

Anorexia

April10

I just got the new catalogs from one of my suppliers and it looks like one of their models has fallen prey to anorexic (or bulimia).

Here she is two years ago:

Last year:

This year:

She was thin to begin with, so she must be really abusing hereself to get down to downright skeletal. Quite honestly, I was grossed out by her latest photos and I won’t be using them on LaLaLingerie.com. Not only because she looks sick, but the clothes don’t look right or attractive hanging off of a skeleton.

Being a model can be such a mind fuck, it’s not surprising that so many models have some sort of eating disorder. It’s sad to witness…
