Moving from California to Puerto Rico

May12

Now that the house is finally ours, Stefan and I need to figure out how to move from California to Puerto Rico. So, we’re going to document all of the resources and info we find on our California to Puerto Rico blog. So far we’ve already learned lots of things such as:

- How to move dogs (or pets) to Puerto Rico

- How car insurance works in Puerto Rico (Everyone is covered through the DMV, rather then by independant insurance companies).

- What’s the deal with property taxes in Puerto Rico? From what we’ve found out so far, we won’t have to pay property tax since our house will be our main residence.

Any how, you can check our progress at www.ca2pr.com :)

From Beemer to Bronco…

May12

The transformation has begun…

I just paid $3200 (via Paypal, nonetheless..haha) for an old beat up Ford Bronco that I have never even seen. Those will be my wheels when I get down to Puerto Rico on Monday. Ahhhhhhhhhh. It’s so refreshing. Back to the basics, just like I like it.

I won’t have to worry about the high maintanence that comes with a “luxury” vehicle (washing, waxing and polishing the chrome rims so they burn out the retinas of pedestians), or the retarded gas prices (I paid $4 per gallon tonight for premium gas. To make it even more annoying, the gas pumps cut off at $75, so I have to do two separate transactions to fill up the stupid tank.). Best of all, I get to shirk the stereotype I get stamped with whenever someone sees me driving the BMW. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE my X5. It was the 1st car I straight up paid cash for and yes, I am very proud of myself. But, I would have NEVER spent so much on a car if I didn’t get the monster tax write off that I got for buying the X5 (the official Vicious Enterprises company vehicle). I’m frugal and I always will be. What can I say :) . Unfortunately, it very rare that anyone sees the X5 and thinks that I actually worked my ass off to earn it. The looks I usually get are more of the “oh, daddy bought blondie a Beemer”…I guess I am still in shock at how completely different people treat you when you drive an expensive car. It’s so fricking stupid. Any who, goodbye shallow southern California stereo types. Helllloooooo Puerto Rico compound!

It's Official!

May11

As of 12pm today, it’s official, Stefan and I have closed on the house in Puerto Rico! Gee, it only took 9 months:D

I’m super duper excited! Yay! My dad and I are heading down on Monday to get the ball rolling on finishing the house. The inside is unfinished, so we’ve got some work to do for sure…

Rincon, Puerto Rico

March11

Here are a few picture of Rincon, Puerto Rico from the last time I went down there (December 2006, I think). Stefan and I met our friends Ricky and Lyndsay down there and we had a great time.

Here is Lyndsay, Ricky and I hiking down to a waterfall that we heard was pretty awesome.

Yep, the waterfall did turn out to be pretty awesome! If you look closely you can see Stefan, Ricky and Lyndsay climbing on the rocks (like Where’s Waldo)…

Here is a picture of Ricky and Lyndsay on top of The Goat House. The Goat House is a realllllly cool abandoned house that was formerly owned by a major drug dealer. When he got busted the government took the house, but never did anything with it. Now, it has no windows and it’s all tagged up inside and the locals go up there to sit on the roof, have a few cocktails and watch the sunset. It would be a perfect place for a cool photo shoot…

Here is the sunset from the roof of The Goat House.

Here is Stefan drinking what we believe to be the worlds smallest ron y Coke (rum and Coke). We laughed so hard when the waiter brought this over. Maybe you just had to be there….haha
